This book is smack dab in the middle of a crime series which features Jack Willows and Claire Parker, homicide detectives.Dr Gerard Roth is a well respected employee of the Vancouver Public Aquarium There was nothing he lovedthan swimming in the tanks with the sharks He wasn t always alone The sharks were not the meanest thing in the water Dr Roth was a mean, vicious man.His body is found in the tanks that hold a pair of killer whales He s mostly intact.Willows and Parker are call This book is smack dab in the middle of a crime series which features Jack Willows and Claire Parker, homicide detectives.Dr Gerard Roth is a well respected employee of the Vancouver Public Aquarium There was nothing he lovedthan swimming in the tanks with the sharks He wasn t always alone The sharks were not the meanest thing in the water Dr Roth was a mean, vicious man.His body is found in the tanks that hold a pair of killer whales He s mostly intact.Willows and Parker are called in to investigate Accident Murder What they will soon learn is that there were witnesses to that night Two young people, who were a bit mellow on the drugs they had taken, had sneaked into the aquarium for a little fun When they saw the aftermath, they assumed they were hallucinating What this couple does turns the case in a different direction Will they be the next to go swimming with the whales On thepersonal side, Jack and Claire have been a working team for 8 years For the last six months, their relationship has become muchintimate All seems to be going well until Jack gets a telephone message from his ex wife she s coming home with their two children Very well written with a lot of character development I really enjoy how Jack and Claire play off of each other It s very evident that they are friends who respect each other and lovers who are going to fuss at each other every once in a while I love the humor between them There are plenty of suspects everyone from his wife to his mistress Maybe his supervisor who wants changes made to the aquarium over Dr Roth s objections Or any one of the multitude of people he has abused, physically and verbally Definitely going to take a gander at the rest of the series. Many thanks to the author Endeavor Press NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review

Another interesting and mildly humourous police drama from the pen of Laurence Gough.Set in Vancouver, British Columbia this series is a little different from the usual books available and provides a new and refreshing look at a team of homicide detectives.Jack Willows and Claire Parker are partners and where other authors have sexual tension in such situations, will he, won t she, their relationship not just pushes boundaries it tears conventions down Indeed they seemlike an old married Another interesting and mildly humourous police drama from the pen of Laurence Gough.Set in Vancouver, British Columbia this series is a little different from the usual books available and provides a new and refreshing look at a team of homicide detectives.Jack Willows and Claire Parker are partners and where other authors have sexual tension in such situations, will he, won t she, their relationship not just pushes boundaries it tears conventions down Indeed they seemlike an old married couple currently their single status is under threat as Jack s wife signals that she is coming home with the kids Do you love her Jack Did she share your bed Claire it seems isn t prepared to share partner, even with his ex Wife. This will annoy the casual reader freshly coming to this series as it could get in the way However, having read them in order it is a gentle distraction and the banter is great. This domestic upheaval is nothing compared to the murder unexplained death of a research scientist at the local Public Aquarium. The Killers of the title could refer to the whale pool where the body was discovered It could imply that there werethan one murderer especially if Dr Roth didn t have an accident he has lots of enemies, i.e lots of suspects. It could even hint that there arekillings, committed by different people just when the cops thought they d never crack one case.Intriguing If you like a complicated thriller where you thought you knewthan the criminal investigation this novel will not disappoint A complex mystery where people loose their way and not everyone is all they seem to be If Dr Roth was killed, perhaps some young kids witnessed it, but what did they see while under the influence of drugs and who could they tell Perhaps they can make crime pay

This is a great series with very well developed characters including even the bad guys and most of the minor players but Willows and Parker are fabulous, Bradley is still the boss every cop would love to work for and his whole squad keep reminding me of Ed McBain s 87th Precinct Although this book has a couple of murders, some great detective work, many suspects with solid motives and a major twist that I never saw coming but should have I think all of that takes a backseat to the personal deve This is a great series with very well developed characters including even the bad guys and most of the minor players but Willows and Parker are fabulous, Bradley is still the boss every cop would love to work for and his whole squad keep reminding me of Ed McBain s 87th Precinct Although this book has a couple of murders, some great detective work, many suspects with solid motives and a major twist that I never saw coming but should have I think all of that takes a backseat to the personal developments in Willows and Parker s lives and it s nice to follow the progress of their romance and it s also nice to follow the personal developments of the other cops in the squad Perhaps Vancouver and it s weather and water plays a bit bigger role in this story than in earlier books in the series and I don t think there were quite as many UK isms as in some of the previous books Now the bad guys and that includes the main murder victim and the murderer are sure a mean, nasty and sadistic lot but i feel the animal cruelty may possibly have been taken a bit too far and may be a bit too graphic There are a few plot holes like the missing dolly which had all sorts of attention paid to trying to find it but then just sort of was forgotten about but overall I quite enjoyed this story Willows has a real problem on his hands with his son Sean which may get some resolution in the next book Heartbreakers but unfortunately I ll have to wait to read it as I have now found an ebook edition of the previous book Fall Down Easy which I had skipped to read Killers but now I ll have to go back and read it before starting the next one Great series but should be read in order

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here Three story lines 1 murder of researcher at Vancouver aquarium, 2 drug addicted couple witness the murder and try to blackmail the killer, 3 family breakup of detective investigating the case Killer confesses everything with 50 pages left to go Odd plotting as many loose ends are explained after the fact the killer dies, blackmailer is killed, others die for no apparent reason, and dogs are drowned and mutilated unsatisfying ending Pretty bad reading experience.

You can read this independent of the other books in this series and still have a good time The setting is interesting and the characters well developed Jack and Clare make a good team Neatly written Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC you will like this if you enjoy mysteries with a slight twist Note that this is a reissue of a book published in 1993 so the technologies etc of today were not available.

I didn t know this was a series when I started to read the book and found I was a little lost with how the characters interacted with each other The mystery is good with the right amount of balance to keep readers reading to the end of the story and wanting a little .ARC from Netgalley
